How we work it out

  • Your songs are analysed in this browser, in the background: they aren't uploaded anywhere.
  • The tempo comes from the song's hits (kick, snare and other attacks), with the same detection as our video studio. If it says 87 and you hear 174, pick «Double».
  • The key comes from which notes sound the most across the whole song (a chromagram), compared with the Krumhansl–Kessler profiles of the 24 keys. The second choice is usually its relative key: if in doubt, listen for it.
  • Camelot and Open Key number the keys on a wheel: moving to the same slot, the one next to it or the one on the other ring sounds natural.
